SummerWorks 2025 – Paid Internships for Young Adults

Live in Clark, Cowlitz, or Wahkiakum County and aged 16–24?
Looking for a paid summer opportunity to gain real-world experience? Join our SummerWorks waitlist and take the first step toward a 6-week paid internship this summer! This program is extremely popular, so it is on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Here’s what to expect:

  1. Apply – Complete the SummerWorks application and meet with a member of our team for an initial screening interview.

  2. Get Enrolled – If selected, you’ll provide documentation required for employment.

  3. Prepare Each SummerWorks participant will participate in work-readiness workshops that empower them to be successful in the modern workplace.

  4. Career Exploration – Each participant will participate in career exploration activities, including (1) informational interview and at least (1) job shadow.
  5. Interview – Interview with a matched employer.

  6. Internship – The program concludes with a paid 100-hour work experience with a local employer that aligns with your specific employment goal(s) and career interest(s).
  7. What’s Next? – After your internship, you may be eligible to join NEXT’s year-round WIOA program for continued support and career development.

Employers – Partner With Us This Summer

Located in Clark, Cowlitz, or Wahkiakum County?
Want to support local youth and help build the future workforce? Partner with NEXT to host a 6-week summer intern, and we’ll cover their wages at $18/hour!

Here’s how it works:

SummerWorks is a career readiness program with various professional development activities, including workshops, mock interviews, and job shadows. It ends with the youth(s) participating in a 100-hour Work Experience (WEX, aka internship) at your organization! If you cannot host an intern(s), you can also complete this form to contribute to job shadows/worksite tours, and informational/mock interviews.

  • Interns receive two weeks of job-readiness training before placement.

  • You’ll interview candidates and select the best fit for your role.

  • NEXT handles all workforce documentation and onboarding support.

  • We stay in touch to ensure interns meet your expectations throughout their experience.
